State final-bound Knights climb to No. 4; seven locals in pursuit of championship starting Tuesday

After an impressive week, Century High is in the Top 5 of the latest VSN Girls Lacrosse Top 20.
The fourth-ranked Knights advanced to the Class 2A state final with a 19-8 victory over Frederick County’s Middletown in a state semifinal, avenging a loss in last year’s 2A state round of four. The Carroll County school opened the week with an 8-7 decision over previously undefeated and then-No. 4 Glenelg in the West Region I final.
Wednesday at Loyola University’s Ridley Athletic Complex, Century will play No. 14 Hereford for the state championship. In another Top 20 affair Wednesday, No. 8 Severna Park plays 12th-ranked Marriotts Ridge for the 3A crown.
State final play starts Tuesday with No. 16 Fallston taking on defending champ Liberty for the 1A championsip. Thursday, No. 9 Broadneck seeks a second straight 4A title against Montgomery County’s Bethesda-Chevy Chase.
IAAM A Conference champ St. Paul’s School remains No. 1, followed by Glenelg Country School, McDonogh, Century and Bryn Mawr School. The second 5 features Glenelg, Archbishop Spalding, Severna Park, Broadneck and Maryvale Prep.
The final VSN Girls Lacrosse Top 20 will be released early next week.
