There was no letdown for Archbishop Spalding High’s girls’ basketball team. After knocking off nationally-ranked Riverdale Baptist Friday evening, the No. 1 Cavaliers returned for the final day of the 5th annual Breezy Bishop Showcase and posted a 73-58 over New York’s Bishop Ford Sunday at Poly-Western.

Junior Raven Makins scored 17 points for Spalding (6-1 overall), headlining five double-digit scorers. Sophomore Camille Calhoun added 15, and Binghamton University-bound post Sherae Swinson finished with 14.

The Cavaliers built a 35-27 against Ford (3-3), ranked No. 4 in the New York City area by the New York Post, completing a huge weekend sweep for the Severn school. Friday, Spalding ousted Riverdale Baptist, ranked No. 1 in the D.C. area by the Washington Post and 16th nationally by USA Today, in overtime.

Senior point guard Byra Freeland finished with 12 points for the Cavaliers, and American University-bound guard/forward Shaquilla Curtis had 10. Shanice Vaughn had a game-high 22 points for Bishop Ford, which defeated H.D. Woodson (D.C.), ranked No. 23 by USA Today, Saturday.

The Cavaliers travel to Mercy for an IAAM A contest Wednesday before a showdown with No. 2 Seton Keough Friday evening in Severn.
