Spalding reaches final four at summer lacrosse extravaganza
After falling short over the weekend, Baltimore will have another shot at a title at the National High School Lacrosse Showcase in Howard County.
Archbishop Spalding advanced to the semifinals of the second session with a 7-4 victory over New York’s Fairport Monday evening. The Cavaliers will play New Jersey’s Summit in a semifinal on Tuesday morning at Blandair Park in Columbia.
The MIAA A Conference squad went 3-1 in pool play along with Baltimore-based Tide Lacrosse Club. The Tide did not advance because of a tiebreaker (goals allowed).
Glenelg Country School and Pride Lacrosse Club split two games on Monday to finish 2-2 in pool play.
The Dragons, Tide and Pride, who played an additional match Monday evening, will play a final game on Tuesday.
Spalding will try to reach the championship round after MIAA A counterparts Calvert Hall College, McDonogh and St. Paul’s reached the playoffs in the opening session over the weekend. Calvert Hall College lost to eventual champ Deerfield Academy from Massachusetts in the semifinals while St. Paul’s and McDonogh lost in the quarterfinals.
UPDATE: Spalding won its semifinal contest on Tuesday morning, defeating Summit (NJ), 13-4, and will face Chaps Lacrosse (Westlake, TX) in the championship game at noon.
