Comets place 11 despite no finalists


Catonsville was the top local finisher in the New Year’s Brawl at Easton, Saturday, placing fifth in the 16 team field with 324 points, won by Smyrna (DE) with 520 points.

The Comets did not have any wrestlers reach the finals, but did have 11 place winners, led by Deontae Frederick, who took third at 154. Ewan Hemis (128), Chase Ritter (134) and Michael Bowers (162) each placed fourth, while Seth Murray (140), Tye Perry (147) and Mateen Kareem (287) claimed fifth place finishes. In addition, Parker Ritter (122) and Gabe Martin (184) placed sixth, while Grant Nuland (197) and Quel Montique (222) each took seventh.

Joe Caudill placed third at 128 for North East-Cecil to help lead the Indians to 7th place team finsish (222 points). Dakota McClennan (122) and Legend Price (197) both stood fourth on the podium, while Brandon Maenner (172) brought home a sixth place medal. Also, Kevin Lewis (108) and Joe Funk (154) each placed seventh and Danny Jones (134) and Justin Ahern both took eighth.

Northeast-AA was just back in eight with 214 points. Billy Katzenberger (140) and Jayden Mason (147) each made a bid for an individual title for the Eagles, each placing second. Other op finishers for Northeast were Jaeisel Delerme-Sanchez (3rd, 108), John Owen-Schmidt (5th, 128), Thomas Gargano (4th, 154), Jason Arnold (6th, 184) and Josh Arnold (7th, 184).

Joppatowne also appeared in the event, placing 12th with 74 points. The majority of that scoring came from Chris Klambihis, who took second at 222. In addition, Fola Kolawole placed seventh at 287.
