Woodlawn holds off City for second straight victory; Johns throws 3 TD passes (VIDEO HERE!!)

Woodlawn's Malachi Dixon fights for yardage as City College's Aaron Johnson tackles him during the second half of Saturday's non-league football contest. The Warriors jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead en route to a 34-18 victory at Alumni Field in northeast Baltimore.

After two disappointing showings to start its season, Woodlawn High's football team appears to have righted its ship.

The Warriors posted a 34-18 victory over City College in a non-league contest at Alumni Field in Baltimore City. Senior quarterback Damontaa Johns threw for three touchdowns and Jawan Rabb added an 11-yard touchdown for Woodlawn.

The Baltimore County school scored the first 34 points, evening its record at 2-2. The Warriors lost to perennial Baltimore County powerhouses Franklin (26-8) and Milford Mill Academy (48-8) to start its season.

After spoiling New Town's fast start last Saturday in Owings Mills, Woodlawn built a 20-0 halftime lead Saturday against City (1-3). Johns tossed scoring passes to seniors Armani Wilson (29 and 19 yards) and Tahj Roberts (10).

Rabb, a transfer from Milford Mill, made it 26-0 late in the third with his 11-yard score. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Jarell Gainer found senior tight end Cameron Wheeler for a 15-yard score.

City, which was shutout at Dunbar last week, got three scoring throws from senior Michael Bond to fellow senior Thomas Foster, including a 54-yarder. The Knights play at undefeated Edmondson Friday in Baltimore City Division I action.

Woodlawn hosts Loch Raven in the Baltimore County Division III opener for both Friday evening at Kevin Lyles Stadium.
