Defending MIAA A champs enjoy a bright spot in rebuild; Goldberg claims career win 200
With McDonald’s All-American Immanuel Quickley now at Kentucky and Montez Mathis starring in the Big 10 at Rutgers, as well as new coaching staff managing a rebuild, it’s been tough season for the John Carroll boys basketball team, which won the MIAA A Conference title last February.
On Wednesday, however, the Patriots enjoyed a rare bright spot in their A Conference schedule, as they defeated Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 63-58, behind a huge performance from Jalen Bryant. It was also the 200th career win for new John Carroll head coach Seth Goldberg, who came over from St. Paul's last summer.
Bryant led three Patriots in double-figures as he scored a game-high 23 points. Tyson Commander added 13 points and Jaiden Jakubowski scored 12. In addition, Cesar Tchilombo did the tough work on the interior, scoring six points, blocking seven shots and grabbing 12 rebounds.
John Carroll is now 4-20 over all and 2-12 in the MIAA. Mount Carmel, also in the midst of difficult season, fell to 5-18 overall and 3-12 in the league.
