Lawn scores twice to lead the Cavaliers

In their second game against a top-3 ranked team in as many days, No. 4 Archbishop Spalding edged second-ranked Garrison Forest School, 3-2, in IAAM A Conference field hockey action on Thursday.

It was a well played game by both teams, mostly in the midfield with neither creating many scoring opportunities, so it came down to who could capitalize on the ones they got.

Spalding jumped on top out the gate, as Margot Lawn scored in the first 10 minutes and the Cavaliers played great defense, led by sophomore Shelby Bumgarner. Lawn added her second goal of the day shortly thereafter with GFS picking one up right before the half.

Spalding (6-2, 2-1 IAAM A) punched in its third goal off a shot by freshmen Katie Fichtner to seal the deal. Lindsay Beadmore had two assists for the Cavaliers, while Hadley Cashman scored both goals for the Grizzlies (5-2, 1-2 IAAM A).
