No. 8 Millers drop Dundalk for first state final four since 2014; Goodwin drops 33

Milford Mill Academy boys' basketball team was disappointed after missing a chance to play for the Baltimore County championship. The Millers have regrouped and a state title is within reach.

The No. 8 Millers won the Class 3A North Region championship with an 87-69 victory over No. 19 Dundalk Saturday afternoon Senior guard Jordan Goodwin scored 33 points for Milford Mill (20-3), and Eric Turner added 18.

The Washington Avenue school raced out a 27-10 first quarter advantage, paving the way to its first state final four since 2014. Milford Mill will play Frederick County's Thomas Johnson in a state 3A semifinal Thursday afternoon on Gary Williams Court inside the University of Maryland's Xfinity Center.

The Millers defeated Dundalk in their last meeting, but later forfeited after it was discovered an ineligible player had participated. The forfeit knocked Milford Mill out of the county final, won by Woodlawn over Dundalk.

Milford Mill defeated the 10th-ranked Warriors in the North semifinals Wednesday. The Millers built a 42-29 halftime advantage Saturday against the host Owls as senior guard and University of Virginia football recruit Ugo Obasi finished with 12.

Gates Cook had 19 points for Dundalk (20-6), and junior Jaylen Johnson added 17. It's the second straight loss in the North final for the Owls, who lost to eventual state champ Poly last year.
