Mustangs open playoff run with a walk-off home run victory over Bel Air, 4-3
No. 4 C. Milton Wright, expected to make a run at a 3A softball state championship, nearly had its post-season end as soon as it began, but Michelle Cisco saved the day for the Mustangs in their 3A North opening round game.
Down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Thursday, against local rival Bel Air, Cisco drove a 2-2 pitch over the fence for a three-run walk-off home run, delivering a dramatic 4-3 victory for CMW and heartbreak for the visiting Bobcats.
Bel Air led the entire way, scoring two in the first and one in the fourth, while the Mustangs managed just a single run, in the second, until the seventh inning comeback.
Skylar Little started the rally for CMW when she was hit by a pitch to leadoff the seventh. Meghan Reed followed with a single to bring Cisco to the plate and she drilled her winning shot to right field.
Lexi Childress drove in Wright’s other run with a RBI single in the second, plating Katie Murphy who led-off with a single. Emily Kim also had a pair of hits.
Bel Air’s first two runs also came on a home run, as Hana Leftridge hit one over the centerfield fence, scoring Abby Bannan, who singled, ahead of her. Arianna Dramis drove in the other run for the Bobcats with a double in the fourth. Bannan was the only Bobcat with two hits.
Amanda Criss took the loss for Bel Air, going the distance and allowing four hits and all four runs. She struck out four and walked three. Murphy was the winner as she went the distance, allowing five hits and three hits, while striking out six and walking one.
C. Milton Wright (13-4) now advances to play Dundalk, at Dundalk on Monday. The Owls advanced with a 15-14 win over Patapsco on Thursday. Bel Air concluded its season at 7-8.
