MIAA A champs finish where they start; McDonogh settles for No. 2
It was an epic battle from start to finish as MIAA powers Calvert Hall College and McDonogh School fought for the top spot in their league and the VSN Top 20 all season. In the end Calvert Hall, the preseason No. 1, claimed both prizes by virtue of their 2-1 overtime win over the Eagles in the MIAA A final. It was the rubber match after the two squads split their regular season meetings and they both finished in the Top 10 of the national rankings.
McDonogh settled for the No. 2 spot in the final 2021 VSN Boys Soccer Top 20, with another MIAA A power, John Carroll School, rising up to No. 3 in our final. Severna Park, a Class 4A state semifinalist, finished at No. 4, and Archbishop Curley, yet another MIAA A squad, round out the Top 5.
Several area public schools made excellent runs in their respective state tournament, but no one brought home a state title. No. 6 C. Milton Wright (3A), No. 16 Fallston (2A) and No. 19 Harford Tech (1A), all from the UCBAC Chesapeake Division, reached state finals.
Fallston and Harford Tech, as well as Century and St. Vincent Pallotti, are all teams which were previous unranked, but which made our final rankings. Century and Pallotti are among four teams tied for the 20th spot.
