The Gilman Greyhounds remained undefeated (7-0-3, 3-0-2) after battling for 100 scoreless minutes at Calvert Hall on Tuesday afternoon, as both teams played solid defense, and both goalies were outstanding. Gilman keeper Andrew Harris finished with ten saves, and his counterpart in the Cardinal goal, John Dillon had nine.
Both Gilman coach Jon Seal, and Hall coach Andy Moore were disappointed that their charges couldn’t find the net all day, and each gave credit to the other’s defenders.
“Andy’s kids played extremely hard,” said Seal. “He had them well organized. They had their chances in the first half, and we had chances over the last sixty minutes and we couldn’t do it. We just gotta find a way to score.”
Harris registered his seventh shutout of the season for Seal.
“We knew that Calvert Hall (3-1-1, 2-1-1) was going to come out and give us a good game,” said the junior keeper, who is regarded by many as one of the top goalkeepers in the country. “We try to keep doing the things that we know how to do well, execute in our zone. We’ll continue to keep working hard every day.”
Hall coach Andy Moore said that Gilman has a well organized defense, and a very good goalkeeper.
“Gilman played hard and they played well today. They did a great job of countering,” said Moore. “When you go 100 minutes and you don’t score a goal, that’s disappointing, but they had a lot to do with that.”
Seal also was somewhat disappointed.
“Coming over here has been our Bermuda triangle,” said Seal, who hasn’t won at Calvert Hall in seven years as the Greyhound coach. “Today was a typical A Conference game on the road, and anytime you can get a point on the road, it’s better than zero.”
“To put that much time and effort into 100 minutes you don’t want to lose,” said Gilman’s Joey Cahalan. “Calvert Hall is really hard working up top. We had our chances.”
Calvert Hall captain Zach Wenger praised Harris.
“Andy played a tremendous game,” said the Hall leader. “It was a very heated game. Both teams battled the entire time, and it was back and forth all day.”
