Archbishop Spalding’s boys soccer team got a gift from host Calvert Hall within the first 30 seconds of their game on Thursday afternoon.

But the Cardinals were not in the giving mood for the other 79 minutes and knocked off the Cavaliers, 3-2 in Towson.

Spalding (4-2-2 overall, 0-2 MIAA A) jumped on the board first 30 seconds into the game when a Calvert Hall defender slid to clear a cross on the wet field and fired the ball into his own net. David Boretti scored in the 70th minute but by then it was too late.

But Calvert Hall (1-1, 1-1) responded with three unanswered goals, twice in the first and once in the second.  John Tune scored two goals and Connor Walsh notched another score while Justin Breidenstein and Eric Borkowicz each had an assist.
