Despite narrowly missing the MIAA A Conference playoffs in the spring, most observers agree that the Calvert Hall lacrosse program is poised to be a major power in the conference over the next few years.

The Cardinals’ summer squad did little to change those thoughts this week as it captured the championship of session two of the Brine Shootout at UMBC, knocking off the favored Fighting Clams (MA), 8-2, in the title game.

Calvert Hall dominated the Clams defensively, not allowing a goal in the first half, and the Cardinals controlled possession for long stretches of the game.

Matt Diehl led the offense with three goals and Kelton Black scored twice.

Carter Brown, with a goal and an assist, and Stephen Kelly, who dished out a pair of assists, both had a multi-point contest. Patrick Kelly and Brian Bolewicki added one goal each and John Beltz contributed an assist.

In goal Brian Rasinksi worked the scoreless first half and Jack Brust played a solid second half. Defender Garrett Epple also turned in an outstanding effort for the Cardinals.
