Calvert Hall’s experiment with night games at Paul Angelo Russo Stadium will continue this week, as the school’s soccer and football programs will each host evening contests under rented lights.

Last November, the Cardinal soccer team played a MIAA A Conference playoff game against Mount St. Joseph under the lights, in front of capacity crowd at Russo Stadium. This Thursday, the Cardinals will host Archbishop Curley in a game that is usually a big draw, regardless of when or where it is played.

Curley (3-5-1, 2-3-0) edged the Cardinals, 1-0, earlier this year.  It was Calvert Hall’s (4-1-1, 3-1-1) only loss thus far and both clubs are looking to solidfy playoff positions as they move into the second half of the regular season.

On Friday, something even bigger is at stake in football, as No. 1 Gilman (4-1, 1-0) visits the No. 3 Cardinals (6-0, 1-0).  Last year at Gilman, Calvert Hall stunned Greyhounds, who did rebound to win the MIAA A Conference championship.

In that contest, the Cardinal defense limited Gilman superstar Darius Jennings with an impressive defensive effort and pulled out a 21-12 win.  This year Jennings and the Gilman offense are even better, and so is the Calvert Hall defense.  It should be a classic showdown, worthy of prime time exposure.  It will also be the VarsitySportsNetwork.com/Kudda Game of the Week and we will have full-game play-by-play, with Booker Corrigan on the mic (available on tape delayed basis).

The start time for both games is 7:00 p.m.
