Calvert Hall jumped out to a 4-0 second inning lead and they added five more runs in the fifth on their way to an 11-2 win MIAA A Conference win over host Gilman, in Roland Park on Wednesday.  Alex Pastorius had a two-run double and Alex Murphy had a two-run single in the second inning.

Junior right-hander Garrett Walther went all the way on the mound for the Hall, notching his fourth win on the season without a loss. Walther scattered seven hits.

Murphy had three hits, including a double, and three RBI, and Pastorius had a double and a single and three RBI for the Cards.

“I was seeing the ball real well,” said Murphy.  “We’ve been getting a lot of swings in, and we’ve been working real hard.”

Pastorius said that the plan against Gilman’s Brendan Casas was to lay off the curve ball.  “We tried to stay patient, and look for the fastball.”

Walther said he started off a little slowly, but that his comtrol got better later in the game. “I started using the change-up, and I kept them off balance.”

Colin Gimblet and Justin Fratantuono each had two hits for the Cardinals, who improved to 9-1 in the MIAA A Conference. The Greyhounds fell to 3-6 in league play.

It was the second win of the season for the Hall against the defending conference champs.
