Cardinals advance to No. 8; St. Frances and McDonogh holds steady in Top 2

There weren’t significant changes for local schools in the newest state media Top 25 football poll. Calvert Hall College, hoping to secure the No. 2 seed for the MIAA A Conference playoffs, is up a spot to 8th.

Nationally-ranked St. Frances Academy is again the unanimous No. 1 with all 12 1st-place votes, with McDonogh (No. 2), Mount St. Joseph (6th) and Calvert Hall in the Top 10. It’s the first time in the history of the state poll Baltimore area schools sit in the top 2 spots.

Also of local interest in the poll are No. 11 Archbishop Spalding, No. 12 Franklin, No. 17 Loyola Blakefield, No. 19 Elkton, No. 22 Mervo and No. 23 South River. Harford Tech, St. Vincent Pallotti and Dunbar each received votes.
