Cardinals open their season in NC with a big win
Calvert Hall continued its tradition of opening its lacrosse season with a visit to Chapel Hill, NC, Friday, as the Cardinals opened a two-game stay at the University of North Carolina with a 16-3 thumping of Lake Norman (NC).
Calvert Hall, winners of an unprecedented three straight MIAA A Conference titles, open 2020 ranked No. 1 in the nation as they aim for four straight crowns.
Senior Daniel Kelly, playing on his future home field, as he is a Tar Heel commit, scored four goals and delivered three assists to lead the way in the opener. Ethan Long was just a shade behind with four goals and two assists, while Truitt Sunderland and Cole Herbert each had two goals and two assists.
Lake Norman was never really in the contest as the Cardinals scored early and often, even after going to the bench. Josh Webber, Aiden Fritz, Max Sullivan and Pearce Nozeka all added one goal, while Jordan Wray, Mic Kelly and Sean Ketchen all got on the score sheet with assists.
The Cardinals will complete their stay in NC on Sunday with a game against St. Christopher’s (VA), before returning to Baltimore for their home opener, next Tuesday, against IMG Academy (FL).
