Cardinals explode for 32 goals in pair of wins in Chapel Hill


On the road for a pair of season-opening contests, the Calvert Hall College lacrosse team opened up its offense in its first two games of the season, Saturday and Sunday at the University of North Carolina, overpowered North Carolina’s Charlotte Country Day, 19-6 and Tennessee’s Memphis University (TN), 13-2.
Eleven different Cardinals had a goal or assist, with Josh Webber leading the way with four goals, while Jack Sawyer and Daniel Kelly had three goals and one assist each, against Charlotte Country Day.
Truitt Sunderland had the assist hat-trick with three helpers, as did Justin Mintzer, who also scored a goal. and Griffen Ackley had two goals and one assist. In addition, Justin Mintzer delivered one goal and three.
Rounding out the scoring for Calvert Hall was Olin Huffman with a goal and an assist, Aiden Fritz with a goal and Harrison Ewiing and Ethan Long each with one assist.
In Sunday’s win, Sunderland hat another hat-trick, this time with goals, and Kelly and Mintzer each provided two goals and two assists.
The Cardinals got one goal each from Harrison Ewing, Webber, Ackley, Ham McPartland, Ryan Vermuelen and Grant Mitchell. Assists were produced by Cole Herbert, Ethan Long, Huffman and Sea Ketchen.
