Last winter Calvert Hall basketball coach John Bauersfeld had the luxury of nine talented, dedicated seniors and they paid dividends by bringing the Cardinals their first Baltimore Catholic League Tournament title in 26 years.
Now those seniors are gone, including the entire starting five, and Calvert Hall must rebuild. Head coach John Bauersfeld will have to replace the points, production and leadership provided by Jon Graham (Penn State), Donya Jacskon (Prep/Navy), Damion Lee (Prep/13 D1 offers), Kyle Wise (St. Mary’s) and Cameron Cook (Hood).
The rebuilding starts with returning seniors Matt Bosse, Michael Wade and Keanan Harrison, as well as a talented group moving up from the junior varsity.
“We’re working hard it. The kids are working hard, so we’re excited about the year,” said Bauersfeld, acknowledging that there will be growing pains for this year’s team.
“The whole league is really difficult,” added Bauersfeld. “I think obviously, St. Frances, St. Joe and then John Carroll, I think, are the three teams that are at the top. Spalding is much improved, Loyola is always tough and McDonogh’s a year older than they were last year. Everybody, top to bottom, the league’s always difficult.”
