Cardinals hit three home runs in a 12-7 victory over Lake Howell
On a spring break trip to Florida, Calvert Hall squandered an early 7-0 lead against Lake Howell (FL), Monday afternoon, but the Cardinals responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and came away with a 12-7 victory.
The Cardinals (2-0), who won their season opener at home on Saturday, over St. John’s (DC), flew South after that contest. In the Florida sun, the Cardinals scored three times in the bottom of the first and four more in the second, only to see Lake Howell score five in the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the score.
Pete Marchineck led-off the game-winning rally in the fifth with a solo home run. With two outs and two runs already in, the Cardinals loaded the bases with a single by Garrett McIlhnenney and a walk by Jose Torres. Parker Landwehr then drew a walk to force home the third run of the inning. Lake Howell continued to help the Cardinals, as Antonio Barranca was hit by a pitch to chase home the fourth run and Marchineck got his second RBI of the inning with yet another walk.
In Calvert Hall’s three-run first, Barranca hit a two-run home run and Torres had a two-run blast in the second.
The Cardinals will continue their trip on Tuesday morning when they face Montgomery High (TN).
