The IAAM Conference lacrosse playoffs are underway as 12 quarterfinal matches take place Monday afternoon. Indian Creek School, McDonogh School and Park School each will begin their respective title defenses.
Indian Creek hosts St. Vincent Pallotti, which defeated Mount Carmel in Friday’s opening round. The Eagles, who claimed their first IAAM crown in any sport with last spring’s lacrosse crown, defeated the Panthers handily during the regular season.
The Indian Creek/Pallotti winner will meet the survivor of Beth Tfiloh and Catholic. Monday’s other C quarterfinals slate include St. Timothy’s School at Oldfields School and Chapelgate Christian Academy hosting Key School.
Seeded fourth, Park School hosts Seton Keough in a B quarterfinal. The Bruins, seeking their fourth league title in six seasons, defeated the Gators during the regular season.
Friends School, which won the 2012 crown, is the top seed and hosts eighth-seeded Annapolis Area Christian School Monday. The other quarterfinal matches feature Institute of Notre Dame at Mercy and Glenelg Country School hosting St. John’s Catholic Prep in Ellicott City.
McDonogh, the area’s and nation’s top-ranked squad, looks to continue its historic run against No. 17 John Carroll School. The Owings Mills school has won a national record 109 consecutive decisions with five straight A titles.
John Carroll, the No. 8 seed, is the last area team to defeat the Eagles. The McDonogh/John Carroll winner takes on Severn or No. 7 Archbishop Spalding (fourth-seed) in Wednesday’s semifinals.
The 11th-ranked and fifth-seeded Admirals, who gave McDonogh its closest match in IAAM regular season play (9-6, March 28), defeated Maryvale Prep in Friday’s opening round. No. 10 seed Mount de Sales Academy, which eliminated last year’s A finalists St. Paul’s School Friday, plays at second-seed and No. 4 Notre Dame Prep Monday afternoon.
The other A quarterfinal features longtime neighborhood rivals No. 13 Bryn Mawr School and Roland Park Country School. The Mawrtians, the No. 6 seed, eliminated Garrison Forest School in Friday’s opening round.
Back on March 19 on Roland Avenue, the fourth-ranked Reds claimed a 8-7 decision over Bryn Mawr in the teams’ league opener.
Semifinal contests take place Wednesday, with the winners advancing to Championship Sunday (May 11) at Stevenson University in Owings Mills.
