Despite the 95 degree weather in late September, C. Milton Wright (Harford County) and Dulaney (Baltimore County) battled through two overtime periods before the Mustangs pulled out a 3-2 win.
C. M. Wright held a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a goal by Meredith Johnson.
In the second half, the Lions (3-2) came out strong with nine consecutive corners but the Mustang defense held them scoreless on those chances. Goalie Ashley Van Scyoc made seven saves in the game.
“Lindsey Boyle, Boo Muscella, Maggie Gallagher, Danielle King and Jenna Booth did an awesome job on the defensive corners,” said Mustangs coach Bonnie Schnell. “Time after time, they stopped and or deflected the ball out of bounds.”
C.M. Wright (5-3) scored again on a goal by Johnson off of a pass Kristin Vitali. With six minutes remaining, it looked like the Mustangs would come away with an easy win but Dulaney wasn’t done just yet.
Sarah George and Hannah Webster scored in the closing minutes of regulation to force overtime.
In the second overtime period, Danielle King scored on a penalty stroke against goalkeeper sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Schaeffler.
