Arundel High girls’ basketball squad’s run of dominance in the Anne Arundel County ended Friday evening as unranked Broadneck handed the defending Class 4A state champs a 58-39 defeat in Cape St. Claire. Kameron Ward led all scorers with 28 points for the Bruins (3-2 overall, 2-2 Anne Arundel), and Dinah Jones added 14.
After scoring five points in the opening quarter, Broadneck outscored the 14th ranked Wildcats, 53-29, over the final three quarters to end a 93-game winning streak by the Odenton powerhouse. Arundel’s last loss came in the 2005 Class 4A East Region finals to South River.
Farleigh Dickinson University-bound guard Tiffany Grant led Arundel (2-2, 2-1 Anne Arundel) with 14 points. The Wildcats will play at No. 2 Seton Keough Tuesday before participating in the Waldorf Holiday Hoops tourney in southern Maryland during the Christmas break.
Broadneck travels to Severn School for a non-league match Tuesday. The Bruins will play in the Lady Lions Holiday Tournament at Queen Anne’s during the break.
