Lakers edge St. Paul’s in OT to eliminate the Crusaders; St. Mary’s comes from behind to secure the second seed; complete breakdown of playoff seeds here

With its dramatic overtime 13-12 win over arch-rival St. Paul’s, defending MIAA A Conference champion Boys’ Latin clinched the top seed for the A Conference lacrosse playoffs.

Both the Lakers and St. Mary’s, which came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat Severn, 9-8, on Friday, both finished 8-2 in the league, but the Lakers took the top spot by virtue of their head-to-head win over the Saints.

Calvert Hall and Archbishop Spalding both finished at 7-3 in league play, after the Cardinals defeated Loyola, 12-8, in its finale and Spalding topped Mount St. Joseph, 12-5. Calvert Hall grabbed the third seed because it defeated the Cavaliers, head-to-head.

McDonogh closed its regular season with a 15-8 romp over Gilman, improving its record to 6-4 and clinching the fifth seed.

Severn and St. Paul’s finished in a tie for the sixth and final playoff spot, both at 5-5, but because the Admirals won the head-to-head, they will go to the playoffs as the sixth seed.

Thus, Severn will visit Calvert Hall on Friday in one semifinals and McDonogh will travel to Spalding for the other. Boys’ Latin and St. Mary’s have earned byes and will both play in the semifinals at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Tuesday. BL will face the McDonogh/Spalding winner and the Severn/Calvert Hall winner will take on St. Mary’s.

The MIAA A Conference championship game will also be at Navy on Friday, Mary 20.
