Indian Creek and Severn stay alive in the elimination bracket; Tournament roundup and updated bracket here

Heading into the top of the seventh, top-seeded Boys’ Latin appeared to be cruising towards the winner’s bracket final in the MIAA B Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, but the host Lakers had to hold on as 4th-seeded St. John’s Catholic Prep rallied for four runs before the Lakers closed out an 8-7 victory.

The big blow in St. John’s seventh was a three-run home run by Josh Skowronski. After the blast, Charlie Godin came on to pitch for the Lakers and he got a strikeout to end the game.

Only three of Boys’ Latin’s runs were earned, as St. John’s committed five errors. JT Windle was 3-for-3 with a double and Kaden Lymon had two RBI for the Lakers. Harry Genth also doubled, scored a run and drove in one and Godin had an RBI single.

Ian McAsian pitched 6.2 innings for BL and earned the win despite tiring in the seventh.

Boys’ Latin (12-5) will now host the winner’s bracket final on Thursday against second-seeded St. Paul’s, which reached the game with a 9-3 win over 3rd-seeded Glenelg Country. BL handed St. Paul’s its only loss this season, but St. Paul’s defeated the Lakers in a pair of non-league games early in the year.
