Calvert Hall College’s Matt Bosse is the inaugural winner of Extra Innings’ Baseball Player of the Week award. The University of Maryland-bound senior first basemen helped the Cardinals to a perfect showing last week.

In the Cardinals’ MIAA A Conference opener against No. 4 Archbishop Spalding March 22, Bosse went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and a double. After the Cavaliers rallied to take a 7-6 lead in the top of fifth inning, Bosse opened the home half with a shot over the leftfield wall. The Cardinals added three more runs in the inning en route to an 11-8 decision.

“He’s an explosive player,” said Calvert Hall coach Lou Eckerl, whose team has won five of the last six MIAA A crowns. “He can hit the ball out of the park anytime.”

Bosse, who stands 6-foot-5, posted a .533 (8-of-15) with the two homers, 7 RBI and scored eight runs. He added three doubles and a triple to his impressive stat line.

“I want to thank Extra Innings, my teammates and coaches,” said the soft-spoken Bosse.

Each week during the spring season, Extra Innings will recognize an outstanding performance by a softball and baseball player. The winner will receive a plaque, courtesy of Extra Innings.
