Calvert Hall senior Matt Bosse whacked two more home runs, Monday, to give him 11 this season as Calvert Hall (8-1) defeated Archbishop Spalding, 15-12, (6-3) in an Anne Arundel County slugfest.

With the two blasts, Bosse tied Joe Vellegia’s (’05) school record for most home runs in a season, and also set a new school record for most career homers with 21. (Scott Kreiger held the previous record with 19.)

Bosse homered in his first two trips to the plate against the Cavaliers, helping the Hall take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, and a 6-1 lead in the top of the third.

Sophomore Colin Gimblett also hit a solo homer, in the second inning, for the slugging Cards.  It was his fifth home run in the past four games, and Alex Murphy smashed a grand slam for the Hall.

The Cavaliers got solo home runs from Alex Barclay and Nick Freeberger.

Both teams pounded the ball on Monday.  For the Hall, Alex Patrorius had three hits and scored three runs, Justin Fratantuono had two hits and scored three runs, Bosse finished with four RBI, Gimblet added a single and had two RBI, and Chris Burton had two hits.

The Cavs’ Ryan Metzler had three hits, that included two doubles, Austin Neary had a double, two singles and two RBI, Freeberger homered and singled, Alex Barclay had a homer, two singles and three RBI, and Jamal Clarke had two hits and two RBI.

Calvert Hall coach Lou Eckerl said that he knew coming in that it would be a slugfest.

“They’re a very good team; they can hit the ball as well as we can,” said the Hall skipper, who has won five MIAA A conference championships in the past six years.

Eckerl said he didn’t want to jinx Bosse.

“He’s having a great year; he’s doing great things,” said Eckerl.

Lefty Andrew Wilczak went the first four innings for the Hall to get the win. The sophomore improved to 4-1 on the year.
