Rising Calvert Hall senior Matt Bosse added to his big summer on the baseball diamond, Saturday, when he was named the Top Prospect at the 2010 Mid-Athlatic High School Baseball Showcase.

Bosse has spent much of the summer traveling with the Under Armour Rookies national showcase squad, gaining recognition as one of the nation’s brightest young sluggers. He did nothing to tarnish that reputation this weekend at the Classic, held at the University of Maryland.

In addition to Top Prospect, Bosse was named Top Power Hitter and Top Student for the North Team. Also, John Carroll’s Brendan Butler was named the event’s Top Runner and Gilman’s Brandon Casas its Top Pitcher.

The Classic, now in its eighth year, featured top baseball talent from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Virginia and Washington, D.C., and is a must recruiting top for college coaches and scouts up and down the east coast. On day one the athletes take part in various baseball skills competitions and then the top players are selected to play in the North/South Crab Claw Classic All-Star Game.

This year the North captured a thrilling, 15-14, victory over the South. Bosse, Butler and Cassas were all on the North team. Also representing the MIAA on the team were Lamonte Wade of St. Paul’s, Trent Shaw and KJ Hockaday of John Carroll, and Bobby Sanzone of Mount Carmel.

The all-star game, also known as the Crab Claw Classic, will be aired on the Harford Cable Network several times this summer.
