According to the Baltimore Sun’s Matt Bracken, Boys’ Latin rising senior Marco Jones has made a verbal commitment to play his college football at the University of Virginia.
Jones, who will be a senior in the fall, sat out the 2008 football season after transferring from Mount St. Joseph, but was part of the 2009 BL team which went 10-0 in the regular season before falling to Archbishop Spalding in the MIAA B Conference Championship Game.
Jones, who is a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end, who may play linebacker in college, caught the eye of Virginia’s new head coach Mike London last summer. At the time, London was the head coach at the University of Richmond where the Lakers traveled for a summer camp. Jones and London hit it off immediately, but Jones was not interested in Richmond. However, once London landed in Charlottesville, Virginia became one of Jones’ top choices.
He made his commitment on Sunday during an official visit. Reportedly, he also had offers from Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, West Virginia and Stanford.
