St. John’s Catholic Prep, which lost by six in a 94-point shootout with John Carroll last week, came up short again on Friday; this time in a defensive struggle with MIAA B Conference Boys’ Latin, in Roland park.
Brandon Cherry and Brandon Barnes combined 203 for yards rushing on 24 carries to help Boys’ Latin (4-0) control the ball just enough to hold back a Viking squad which is making great strides under head coach John Ricca, in the first year of his second stint with St. John’s (2-2).
The Boys’ Latin defense was pace by its two Division I bound tackles, as Marco Jones had six tackles, five hurries and an interception and Greg Pyke had five tackles and two sacks. In addition Mike Turner had a pair of interceptions, Aaron Mack had eight tackles, including five solos, while Chris Rubino and Taylor Stothoff each had an interception.
