Boys’ Latin came from behind to upend visiting Archbishop Spalding, 2-1, in an MIAA A Conference soccer contest on “Fall Festival Day” in Roland Park on Saturday.

Owen Reid’s second half goal proved to be the game-winner for Boys’ Latin.

After a scoreless first half, Coach Pat Crawford’s Cavaliers broke on top 1-0 when Davis Bosley found Cole Miller with a clear shot from seven yards out, just thirty seconds into the second half, and Miller converted.

Ten minutes later, the Lakers tied it at one when Nicky Brown tallied on a feed from Luke Thomas.

The Cavs and Lakers came in with just one conference win each, but both teams were so tenacious throughout that the atmosphere had the feel of a playoff game.

Senior captain Owen Reid got what proved to be the winning goal for BL at 20:14, and the Laker defense made it stand-up.

“It was a great throw-in by Jackson-Urban. He played a great ball over the top, and I found myself one-on-one with the keeper and I placed it,” said Reid.

“(Keeper) Owen (Allen-Worrall) kept us in the game; he has been priceless all season. This win means a lot to us. We hope it helps propels us into the playoffs,” added Reid.

Allen-Worrall registered six saves on the day, as did his counter-part, Spalding’s Clif Nehman.

Laker Coach Aaron Allen-Zukerberg said, “There are no easy outs in this league. You must show up and be ready to play. You’ve got to play a full 80 minutes, and today, we did. We had a real good second half, and got those two goals after being down. The half time message was that we needed to play harder, and play faster. We still have a long way to go. and we’ll take each game one of the time. We’ve got McDonogh on Monday, so we’re excited for that.”

Spalding Coach Crawford said that he was proud his team.

“We’ve had nine guys hurt so far this year, and at least three should be back on Monday.

“We’re working hard and we’re grinding, and we hope we can get a few more starters back in time for Calvert Hall next Wednesday. I think when we’re at full strength we’ll have what we need to compete for a playoff spot.”
