Centennial’s Nathan Kraisser rises to 35-0 in 2010-2011

Centennial junior Nathan Kraisser rose to 35-0 on the year with his 56th consecutive win and his 110th career victory with Friday night’s second-period pin in his 125-pound quarterfinal bout of the two-day, 21-team Class 4A-3A East Regional Tournament at Howard County’s Wilde Lake High.

Kraisser finished off Old Mill’s Detric McCoy in 2 minutes, 25 seconds.

A three-time county titlist, Kraisser is looking to do win his third straight regional and Class 4A-3A state tournament crowns, this, during his quest to join Aberdeen of Harford County’s Matt Slutzky, Owings Mills of Baltimore Countys Steve Kessler, Hereford of Baltimore County’s Josh Asper and Southern of Garrett County’s Bubba Scheffel as Maryland’s only four-time state titlists.

“It was 13-0 when he came up and I was able to get a like a pancake. I just hipped into him,”Kraisser has a career record of 110-3.

“I want to go out there and dominate every match. I don’t want any of them to be close. I just want to keep it rolling,” said Kraisser, whose father, Cliff, an assitant coach to Dave Roogow, was a former Centennial state champion.

“It’s important to go out there and carry yourself well. You don’t want to get cocky. I want to be confident but not cocky. I want to respect my opponent because no one is easy,” said Kraisser. “I want to just go out there and wrestle my best. It’s the ultimate sign of respect for your opponent that you do that.”

The tournament is comprised of teams from Anne Arundel, Howard, James M. Bennett’s of Wicomico County, and, Stephen Decatur of Worcester County.

Wilde Lake’s Alex Polonsky earns 97th career victory

Wilde Lake junior Alex Polonsky earned his 97th career win with Friday night’s first-period pin over Broadneck’s Dylan Edwards in his 112-pound quarterfinal bout of the two-day, 21-team Class 4A-3A East Regional Tournament at Howard County’s Wilde Lake High.

Polonsky finished Edwards in 1 minute and 57 seconds of their match, improving his record on the year 25-4. Having placed third, and, second, respectively, in the county tournament, Polonsky is after his second consecutive regional and Class 4A-3A state titles.

Among Polonsky’s losses was by 9-8 in the regular-season to Arundel’s Logan Reese, who scored a 54-second fall over C. Milton Wright’s Mike Zito.

Polonsky won’t meet Reese until perhaps the semifinal, this, if Polonsky can defeat South River’s Austin Alley in the semifinals, and Reese can get beyond Aberdeen’s Shayduan Velez (34-1).

Velez pinned Mike Levandusky of James M. Bennett in 2 minutes, 53 seconds, and has split bouts with Reece (30-5).

“I was winning against Reese, and he caught up to me in the third period. I’m just focusing pretty much on one match at a time,” said Polonsky.

“It’s a new year, so I’m pretty much trying to block everything else out and take it one match at a time,” said Polonsky. “It’s a whole new thing, and I’m just starting all over with a completely new approach to the year.”
