Top Drawer Soccer names the local duo to its Fall 2019 squad

The 2019 fall soccer season seems ages ago, considering all that has happened with the Coronavirus pandemic in the months since and the fact that the same virus is threatening the 2020 season, but two local stars recently received some major national accolades.

Ben Bender, who graduated from Calvert Hall in the spring and who is scheduled to play for the University of Maryland this fall, along with rising Gilman senior Grant Farley were each named Top Drawer Soccer 2nd-Team Fall All-Americans for the 2019 season.

Bender, who was also named Maryland’s Gatorade Player of the Year for 2019, scored 14 goals last fall and is a two-time All-State selection. He scored 33 goals and added 17 assists in his high school career.

Farley, who plays for the Baltimore Armour Academy is one of the nation’s premier goalkeepers and he has committed to Duke University. He has started at Gilman since his freshman season and posted eight shutouts in 2019, averaging seven saves per game.
