The Ben Franklin boys’ basketball team is young, fast and ready to take on the challenge of moving up to Baltimore City’s Division 1.

The Bayhawks return just three key players, including two starters, but the team played well this summer against larger, more experienced opponents.

“Moving to Division 1 will be a task for my younger players, but we have done very well in Division 1 in the past, before being moved back to Division 2,” said seventh year head coach William Russell, who has an excellent 116-32 record with the Bayhawks. “We will have some talented freshmen on this years varsity. We will have some growing pain as we prepare for our region.  Senior stacked teams may have more experience but we will be ready to battle and we will battle until the very end.”

Leading the way will be a trio of guards, including senior Dameone Suggs and juniors Larry Walker and Nathan Mister, the team’s top outside shooter.

“This will be one of our faster run and gun style teams,” added Russell. “We are young in spots but we will be very gritty defensively.”
