In about a month, boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will begin practice for the 2010-2011 winter campaign. Several boys’ teams are getting ready at the Under Armour League at St. Frances Academy and the Carmelo Anthony Community Center.
The 12-team league features Baltimore County schools Parkville, Randallstown, state Class 1A finalist Owings Mills and defending Class 3A state champ Milford Mill along with MIAA schools Glenelg Country, Archbishop Spalding, Archbishop Curley and host St. Frances. St. Mary’s Ryken from the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and Princeton Day Academy rounds out the field.
Six games are played each Saturday. Last Saturday, Glenelg Country School took on Oakland Mills, matching two of the area’s top post players in Glenelg Country junior Isaiah Miles and Oakland Mills senior Greg Whittington.
Whittington, 6-foot-8, has attracted offers from Clemson, LaSalle, Morgan State, George Mason and Georgia State, after shining with the HCYP Elite U-17 squad at the AAU Junior Nationals in Orlando during the summer. The 6-7 Miles is arguably the area’s top underclassmen.
