Loyola Blakefield, the defending MIAA A Conference soccer champion, opened its 2013 season with a victory, on Thursday, as the Dons edged Haverford, Pa., 1-0, in the Under Armour Challenge at Goucher College.
Gavin Barger scored the game’s only goal on a second half penalty kick.
Archbishop Curley also participated in the event and fell in it’s opener, 2-0, to Shipley, Pa. Shipley got on the board in the final minute of the first half and added its second goal by converting a corner kick, 15 minutes into the second half.
On Friday, Loyola and Curley will swap opponents, with the Friars facing Haverford at 11:00 a.m., and the Dons battling Shipley at 12:30 p.m.
