In a competitive MIAA B Conference basketball match-up to start 2011, Friends and Boys’ latin squared off Monday night on Charles Street and the host Quakers prevailed, 53-46.

The contest featured an interesting battle of big men, as BL’s Greg Pyke, with his massive 6-foot-6 frame battled with Friends athletic senior big man Jon Schmidt.  Pyke won the scoring dual, 21-17, but Schmidt was able to make the big shots as the Quakers pulled away in the second half.

A balanced supporting cast behind Schmidt, included brothers Jay and Paul Orrson scoring nine points each for Friends.  In addition to Pyke’s 21, Friends got 12 points from junior Robert White.

Friends is now 2-6 in the league and 3-7 overall.  Boys’ Latin is now 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
