Gilman School’s football team is again No. 1 in the state as the statewide media poll was released Tuesday afternoon.

Gilman (No. 1 in the latest VSN’s metro Top 20), which routed previous No. 1 DeMatha Catholic, 35-10 at Unitas Stadium Saturday evening, received 298 points. Good Counsel, which Gilman routed, 28-7, Sept. 4 to ascend to the state’s top spot, moved up to second.

Arundel (one first-place vote) moved up a spot to No. 4, and River Hill remained sixth as well as Calvert Hall College at No. 13. Broadneck slipped a spot to 16th while Anne Arundel County foe and defending Class 4A champ Old Mill advanced from 18th to 17th.

Poly (19th) and Mount St. Joseph (21st) each moved up three spots. McDonogh School is new to the poll at 22 while Archbishop Spalding (No. 23) makes a return after routing Loyola Blakefield last weekend. North Harford moved up a spot to 24th.

Local unbeaten squads South Carroll, Boys’ Latin, Patterson and South River each are listed in others receiving votes. South River will make its case for a Top 25 spot, playing Broadneck Friday while Patterson takes on Poly at Mervo’s Modell Field.
