Tanja Kylliainen, a senior at Loch Raven and a swimmer for Loyola Blakefield Aquatics (LBA), has signed a national letter of intent to continue her education and swimming career at the University of Louisville.
Kylliainen considered scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Virginia, North Carolina and Auburn before choosing Louisville where she will competer under Coach Arthur Albiero.
Kylliainen, who currently has U.S.A. 2012 Olympic Trials qualifying times in both the 200 butterfly and the 400 individual medley, is a dual citizen of the United States and Finland and is the Finnish National Record Holder in the 400 I.M.
The decision to attend Louisville was joint decision between Kylliaian, her parents, Mauno and Sandi Kylliainen, and LAB coach Keith Schertle. All believed the large number of international swimmers at Louisville gave her not only the best chance to final and score at the NCAA Swimming Championships, but also to compete for Finland in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
