No. 1 Aberdeen High advanced to the semifinals of the IAABO Christmas girls’ basketball tournament in Prince George’s County, defeating Friendly from Prince George’s, 58-4, in an opening round contest Thursday at Largo.

The two-time defending Class 3A state champ Eagles (4-0 overall) will play Prince George’s County’s Eleanor Roosevelt in a semifinal Friday evening in Upper Marlboro. The Raiders, ranked No. 5 in the District region by the Washington Post, crushed Southern, 85-32, in a quarterfinal Thursday.

Southern takes on Friendly in a consolation bracket match Friday afternoon. Archbishop Spalding dropped a 47-43 decision to Calvert in another quarterfinal Thursday.

Daijha Thomas, a 6-foot-3 forward who signed with Towson University, scored a game-high 21 points for Calvert and Endia Butler added 13. Victoria Reynolds had 13 points for Archbishop Spalding (3-7), and Erin Baker finished with 11.

Calvert from southern Maryland, the three-time reigning Class 2A state champions, will play Mount Vernon (Va.), in the other semifinal Friday evening. Spalding will play Bowie in the consolation bracket Friday at 2 p.m.
