Eagles down Mount Carmel in the tournament’s first elimination game
Annapolis Area Christian went on the road Tuesday to face Mount Carmel in the first elimination game of the 2019 MIAA B Conference baseball tournament and the Eagles captured a 5-1 win over the Cougars to stay alive in the playoffs.
The game was scoreless in the early going, but Mount Carmel grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but AACS moved on top with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles then took complete control with three more runs in the top of the seventh and held on for the victory.
AACS racked up seven hits on the day, with Austin Swartz and Evan Haulik leading the way with two each. Issac Miller had the big hit in the seventh inning, driving home the fourth and fifth runs for AACS.
Matt Sowinski started on the mound for the Eagles and went six innings giving up one run on three hits and striking out eight. Evan Haulik pitched the seventh inning to finish the game.
Annapolis Area will now play St. Vincent Pallotti on Wednesday in Laurel in another elimination battle and the winner of that game will play at top-seeded Glenelg Country on Thursday.
