After a 15-day layoff, Annapolis Area Christian School showed little rust Thursday, scoring 13 runs in the final three innings as the Eagles routed Glenelg Country School, 15-5, in a MIAA B Conference contest. Every Eagle starter had at least one hit as senior  Thomas Williams returned to the lineup from an opening game injury by going 3 for 3 with a double, walked twice and scored five runs.

AACS (3-2 overall, 2-0 MIAA B) opened the scoring in the first with consecutive two-out doubles by Williams and junior starting pitcher Steven Ridings. The lead evaporated in the second as an Eagle throwing error plated two runs.

In the third, Glenelg second baseman Doug Miller lofted an opposite field homer down the left field line to increase the Dragons’ lead to 3-1.Annapolis Area loaded the bases via walks, then Zack Bradley lined a single to left with two outs. The Eagles blew it open in the fourth.

Chris Van Riper and Bryan Williams singled to open the inning, with Van Riper scoring on FX Graham’s single. Thomas Williams drove in both runners with his second hit, and after he advanced on a wild pitch, senior catcher singled up the middle for the fourth run of the inning and a 6-3 Eagle lead.

After Glenelg scratched out a run in the top of the fifth without a hit, the Eagle bats erupted again. After putting runners on second and third with one out, Graham singled to drive in two. After stealing his second base of the evening, Graham loped home on Thomas Williams third hit.  Ridings then lined a triple to score Williams, and he later scored on an infield error.

Glenelg put runners on first and third with none out in the sixth, but a double play groundout squelched the rally. Annapolis Area Christian ended the game with another 4-run outburst, capped by Ridings’ bases loaded double.

Ridings finished 3 for 5, with two doubles and a triple and 5 RBI. Ridings worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned, and struck out 11 for the victory. Junior Phil Michael came on in a save situation in the fifth, pitching the last 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, an earned run, and struck out one.
