Old Mill Patriots

Coach: Chad McCormick

2010 record: 9-2 (Class 4A East Region semifinalists; No. 10 in final VSN Top 20)

Returning starters: 14

Key returners: Rob Chesson, Running back, Sr.; Rafael Kess, Linebacker, Sr.; Deonte Shields, Quarterback, Sr.; Torie Wagner, Defensive back, Sr.; Terrance Brownlee, Linebacker, Sr., Seth Holbrook, Defensive line/Fullback, Sr.

Outlook: The Patriots are under new management with McCormick replacing Damian Ferragamo, who stepped down after six seasons and the 2009 Class 4A state crown. After early exit last postseason, the Millersville school is seeking for a deep run this fall.

The Patriots have Chesson, Anne Arundel County’s top player, back to highlight the offense. Shields, last year’s starter, have a pair of underclassmen challenging him. The Patriots will have an experienced core up front.

Kess and Brownlee will make up one of the best linebacker units in the area. The Patriots return nine regulars from a unit that allowed 126 points last season.

“We’re going to be more physical,” said Chesson, who’s being recruited by Towson University and Buffalo. “”We should be fine, the chemistry is excellent.”
