Western Tech Wolverines

2010 record: 11-1 (Class 1A North Region finalists)

Coach: Al Lagon

Returning starters: 10

Key returnees: Thomas Moore, Athlete, Sr.; Kevin Floyd-Harrison, Offensive line/Defensive line, Sr.; Brian Njoku, Offensive line/Defensive line, Sr.; Pat Brown, Offensive line/Defensive line, Sr.; Andre Smalls, Offensive line/Defensive line, Jr.; Evens Cross, Running back/Defensive back, Jr.; Blair Awkward, Defensive back, Jr.

Key newcomers: Payton Beacham, Running back/Outside linebacker, Jr.; Dwayne Lucas, Offensive line/Defensive line, Jr.; Anthony Golden, Running back/Linebacker, Jr.

Outlook: The Wolverines enjoyed their finest season, winning the Baltimore County 1A/2A crown. Despite losing standout quarterback/defensive back Juleon Killikelly-Lee, who transferred to Woodlawn, the Catonsville school has several pieces in place.

Moore will be the lynchpin for Western Tech’s offense with Harrison, an All-County performer last fall upfront with Njoku and Brown. Beacham and Golden will also contribute.

Harrison, Njoku and Brown will key the defensive front with Beacham and Golden at linebacker. Lagon said he’s been impressed Awkward in the secondary.

Lagon said he has several more players on the varsity roster, which he contributes to last year’s success. The Wolverines think they’ll be in the hunt in the County 1A/2A and another postseason berth.

“The bar has been set higher,” said Lagon. “The kids want to go to 10-0 and they know they can.”
