Wildecats top Hammond behind Jackson

Saleem Jackson rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Ostia Smith scored twice as Wilde Lake High defeated Hammond, 41-6, in a Howard County football opener Saturday evening in Columbia.

Darryl Jeffries and Amari Hutson each had rushing touchdowns for the Wildecats (1-0 overall and Howard), who scored the final 27 points. Keith Vasek’s 14-yard touchdown throw to Samuel Mercedes accounted for Hammond’s only score.

Wilde Lake plays at Atholton in a HoCo match Friday while Hammond hosts No. 13 Long Reach.
