Medvetz scores game winning in overtime

Coming off a tough battle with Archbishop Spalding in the final game of the regular season, top-ranked Notre Dame Prep had the difficult task of squaring off once again with the 10th ranked Cavaliers, in the IAAM A Conference semifinals, Tuesday afternoon in Towson.

As they did in the previous meeting, a 3-2 win by NDP, the Cavaliers pushed the undefeated Blazers to the limit, before sophomore Meredith Medvetz saved the day for NDP, scoring a sudden death gaol in overtime to lift the Blazers (16-0) to the victory and into Sunday’s league championship game against second-seeded Garrison Forest.

The two teams played one second shy of six minutes in the first OT before Sam Mason fed Medvetz tight to the goal where the she finished.

The game was tight throughout and remained scoreless as the clock wound past 10 minutes to play in the second half. Nason, however, with 7:50 left, broke the ice and put the Blazers on the board. Spalding responded just over two minutes later when Payton Kenney produced the equalizer.

NDP will attempt to complete a perfect season on Sunday when they meet the fourth-ranked Grizzlies, who took out No. 12 McDonogh, 3-0, in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Sunday’s title game gets underway at 2:00 p.m. at Stephenson University.
