Gators defeat No. 19 Severn to complete a 3-0 week
St. Paul’s School for Girls field hockey finished a strong 3-0 week with a big conference win, Friday, over No. 19 Severn – beating the Admirals, 1-0, in Booklandville, to take the top spot in the IAAM B Conference.
After a back and forth first half, the teams went to intermission locked in a scoreless tie. SPSG’s center mid Leighton Eber and middie/defender Kelsey Jones controlled the center of the field and dominated the play, but St. Paul’s could not score even though they out-shot the Admirals.
At the 9:29 mark in the second, Eber carried the ball into Severn territory, dodged a couple of defenders and crossed it to forward Eryka Milancz, who made a touch pass to Kerrigan Rogers who knocked it in from the post to give SPSG the 1-0 lead.
SPSG’s defense, anchored by sophomores Maggie Norton and Liz Kennedy and senior Grace Boyce, held on for the shutout. Goalie Carson Stephenson had 12 saves and capped off a week allowing no goals in their three wins.
