Dunbar tops Chesapeake-Baltimore County in 1A North semifinal (VIDEO HERE!!)


Dunbar High dominated the second half of play, defeating Chesapeake-Baltimore County, 48-0, in a Class 1A North Region semifinal at Sugar Cain Field in east Baltimore Friday evening.

The Baltimore City Division I champ and eighth-ranked Poets (9-1 overall) will play either Reginald Lewis or Overlea in next weekend’s North final. Overlea and Lewis meet Saturday afternoon at Cain in the other semifinal.

In its first 1A postseason match since 2011, Dunbar rolled up 36 second half points to win its state-record 53 playoff game. The Poets have an area-best nine state championships (seven in 1A).

Senior quarterback Jared Lewis threw three half scores to Malik McCormick (55) and Raekwon Walker (57 yards) and Ryan Wood (65 yards). Andre Brandon finished with two touchdown runs and Desmond Jackson and Alphonso Graham each added scoring runs.

Chesapeake, which won the Baltimore County Division II title, finished 8-3 on the season.
