Knotts ties up a win for the Cougars with a the game-winning RBI in the sixth


Having dropped its first four league games, the Mount Carmel baseball team hosted one of the MIAA B Conference league leaders, Monday, as Glenelg Country traveled to Essex.

The Dragons arrived at Mount Carmel with a share of first place and they left in third place after the host Cougars claimed a 6-5 victory.

Spencer Knotts singled in Mekhi Howard in the bottom of the sixth inning to plate the winning run. Howard led the Cougars offensively going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI’s, scoring not only the winning run, but a crucial early run on a perfect squeeze bunt by Daryl Jackson. Junior Austin Heid also contributed to the Cougar offense with a two-run double.

On the mound, Mount Carmel senior Jake Brack pitched a complete game for the victory, striking out six while only allowing seven hits. The Cougars are now 1-4 overall and in the league.

For Glenelg Country (4-2 overall, 4-2 MIAA B), Marcus Khademi and Cole Sterry each delivered two RBI’s and Kevin Gamble stroked a double. Sterry suffered the loss on the mound for the Dragons.
