Greyhounds strengthen their quest for the post-season
On a wet, but warm fall afternoon, the Gilman soccer team traveled to Severna Park, Monday, and claimed a 3-0 MIAA A Conference soccer victory over host Archbishop Spalding, keeping the Greyhounds squarely in the hunt for a spot in the league playoffs.
Joe Melancon scored a pair of goals to lead Gilman and Logan Paff had the other. Jack Stuzin and Avery Merlo added assists. The Greyhounds broke open a 1-0 game at the half, with two scores in the final 45 minutes.
Gilman (6-7 overall) is now 4-6 in the conference where they sit in sixth-place and the top-six will make the playoffs. Down the stretch, the Greyhounds figure to be battling with John Carroll (3-9) for the final spot.
Spalding (4-11-1 overall), which is now 2-9 in the league, is in eighth place and the Cavaliers trail the Greyhounds by six points and John Carroll by three.
